Here’s our wonderful client Dana…and Taco! Dana takes lessons twice weekly with Kate. Occasionally, Kate’s EpicPup, Taco, makes an appearance and he’s always a huge hit! (We’re working on an EpicPet Spotlight featuring Taco soon!)
EPIC: When and how did you discover Pilates?
DANA: I discovered pilates in 1998 – I had just gotten engaged and wanted to upgrade my fitness regimen from just the endless miles of running I was doing. I found a private class two times a week and I never looked back.
E: What is the most notable change Pilates has made to your body?
D: When I got engaged, I went to a dress fitting to have my mother’s wedding dress tailored to me. My mom was three inches taller than me. A year after that first dress fitting, the seamstress had to add another inch back to the length of the dress because I had grown an inch. I know pilates improved my posture and my core finding that inch I’d “grown”.
E: What motivates you to maintain your Pilates routine?
D: I love how I feel after a Pilates workout. I feel stronger. Confident. Content. Flexible. My now 51 year old body is racked with various injuries and ailments, yet I leave a workout feeling like my younger, stronger self. Plus, I have THE BEST INSTRUCTOR in Kate Chan who pushes me to find my best self while making me laugh so hard my core hurts.
E: What is your preferred Pilates equipment?
D: I love the jumpboard. On those rare occasions my knees and back are healthy, I absolutely LOVE the burning thighs, glutes and core that only the jumpboard seems to activate. I can’t get enough of it.
E: What is your favorite exercise on any equipment?
Q: How do you pick a favourite – that’s like Sophie’s Choice. It’s easier to tell you what I don’t love: the 100. I know it’s good for me but man, I just hate it.
? About You / Rapid-Fire Fun Facts?:
E: What is a hidden talent of yours?
D: Organizing – I love to organize kitchens, mudrooms and closets… though that might not be a talent. That may more likely be an illness or an obsession.
E: If you could be an animal for a day, what would you be?
D: Probably a baby panda. Have you ever watched a video of those adorable creatures playing with its caretaker or other baby pandas? It’s bliss personified.
E: Name a place you’ve never been to that you’d like to visit.
D: Viet Nam and Cambodia. My father survived two tours of duty there and has always talked about how beautiful the countries were when he was there. I’d love to go back with him and learn more about his time there.
E: Window or aisle?
D: Aisle. Always aisle.
E: Night Owl or Early Bird?
D: Night Owl. I love the quiet time when everyone else in my family is home and back in the nest.
